The Gambling Commissions Gambling Prevalence study has found out that there has been an increase in gambling in United Kingdom, and with it, an increase in the number of problem gambling cases.

In a bid to control and address the situation, the Responsibility in Gambling Trust (RIGT) is using the figures disclosed in the study for funding of the purpose. They intend to use the money they receive in treatment, research and education programmes that will solve the issue.

Online bingo sites has not been cited as a strong contributor to the increase in problem gambling cases; however online bingo sites are waiting for details of the report with increase.

RIGT aims at collecting about 10 million pounds annually from land and internet based gambling industry to fund their program of handling problem gambling. They aim at not only treating gambling problems, but to also nip the problem in the bud by educating gamblers to make wise and informed choices when indulging in their favorite form of gambling.

The Chairman of RIGT states that treating those with a gambling problem proves to be too late for any cure. It is better to take a preventative approach by educating people about the vices of gambling. At present, RIGT is spending 10 times more to tackle gambling problems, than it used to spend in 2000.

This is why they have made a request for doubling of their income before 2010 to handle the situation. However according to the Chairman, even this amount may not suffice in handling gambling problems.
