UK Sports Minister Promises Assistance To Bingo Industry
As reported in the Times Online (honestly, it is there - a small paragraph about two thirds of the way down the page), bingo in the UK is to get government help soon. This comes largely in light of the fact that the bingo industry has taken some fairly big hits in recent times. Primarily, it is the bingo halls located throughout the UK that have suffered, with the smoking ban having an adverse effect on player numbers along with the removal of Section 21 machines.
Further bad news came when VAT was not lifted on bingo during the recent Budget. This combination of unfortunate and damaging stories has left the physical bingo hall industry in a rut. However, at the AGM of the Bingo Association, Gerry Sutcliffe the sports minister has indicated that help is on its way.
It’s believed that this help will, at least, begin with raising the number of £500 jackpot machines that are allowed in each bingo hall. Typically speaking, the higher the jackpot and the greater the number of machines, the more people will be willing to face a smoke free environment. This, in turn, means that the bingo companies will earn more revenue thanks to the introduction of new machines. This action will take place, according to me Sutcliffe, in the next few weeks.
