Top lawyer benefits with bingo win
In a bid to fight relatives fighting for a claim to her jackpot win, bingo millionaire Jean McCullagh has hired top lawyer Cameron Fyfe to fight her bingo partners and family members, Rose and Jessie McCullagh.
Jean aged 69 has asked the court to freeze all her winnings till things get cleared. In the meantime, the lawyer states that Jean is very distressed and that everything has greatly overwhelmed her. Fyfe says that it is quite difficult to prove these cases though Mrs. McCullagh adamantly states that there was no agreement made.
It was while Jean and her sister Margaret were visiting from Canada that they hit a national jackpot on a night out. They had gone out to the Forge Mecca in Glasgow’s Parkhead with Rose and Jessie.
According to them, Jean had promised each of them 250,000 pounds while Jean insists that she had promised only a share of the local jackpot. In fact, she has members of staff who had witnessed the conversation as proof.
However Rose and Jessie say that the four of them had promised to split any win and it was during an emergency court hearing last month that the payment was frozen by the judge.
These three women are married to three brothers and live within a few minutes’ drive of each other. However the family has been ripped apart and last week, Jean and her husband returned to their 300,000 pounds detached villa in Lanarkshire as forlorn figures.
Fyfe says that the onus for the opposite side is proof for an agreement to share winnings which they are confident they will not be able to do as there never was any agreement in the first place. Fyfe intends on calling staff from the bingo club who will provide proof and support for Mrs. McCullagh.
As another local woman, Margaret Shearer had become Britain’s first 1 million pound winner in the same hall a month before Jean’s win, the Forge Mecca is considered to be the luckiest bingo hall of Britain.
