The Changing Face of Bingo
Gone are the days when bingo was just for old women with blue rinse hair. With the recent celebrity endorsement from the likes of Denise Van Outen and Catherine Zeta Jones, the industry is modernising itself. There are even dedicated student nights now.
According to recent statistics released by the Bingo Association, over 8.5 million people played bingo last year and with the average age decreasing by more than 15 percent, they say that almost half of those players are under the age of 45 now.
The statistics are even more interesting when it comes to females. Apparently, 51,000 women below the age of 35 play bingo online. The free online bingo games are attracting many new people to try out the game for the first time and many return to play again and again. 22 percent of those 51,000 women log on to play online bingo more times than they visit the gym each week and 12 percent play bingo more often than they have sex.
Now the new challenge facing the industry is how to keep its existing, loyal fan base, which consists of the older generation whilst still attracting the younger audience that it desperately needs in order to continue and remain a viable game.
