French court verifies respecting of EU law:
The decision of the French judicial court to verify the commitment of the government in respecting European Union law has been accepted gratefully by the European Betting and Gaming Association (EGBA).
The reason the EGBA is delighted with this commitment is that the Court of Appeal of Versailles’s statement is based on its questioning French gaming legislation and in addition, its compatibility with EU law.
With this commitment, the French government is now able to prove its present online gaming regulations that basically restrict non-French gambling companies like online bingo halls and online bingo operators from making any access to the French market.
According to the ruling of the European Court of Justice, gambling businesses that were operating from an EU country was permitted to offer its products and services all over the EU. In addition to this, restrictions if any were only applicable for reasons of public interest.
The Secretary General of the EGBA, Sigrid Ligne states that they are more than delighted with this decision as it is an important one which indicates the commitment the French authorities have in proposing a controlled opening of the French gaming market by March 2008.
At present, EU members who are running state gambling monopolies are being pressured by the European Commission to provide for free trade of goods and services between its member nations.
Currently, UK based online bingo games operators are restricted from numerous EU countries because of these state run gaming monopolies.
