Fifty grand bingo win splits sisters
What would you do if you won fifty thousand pounds? Many people go to bingo together each week and enjoy a great night out playing the numbers, hoping they will get to shout ‘House’. Most of these little groups have an ‘agreement’, saying that they will share whatever winnings they have and often they do, but what about when the ‘big win’ comes up, are they really going to split it?
That was the scenario for three sisters from Runcorn in Cheshire and Liverpool when one sister won £50,000 in a National Game at their local bingo hall in Liverpool, but then refused to split it. Her side of the story was that they had agreed not to split winnings over £1,000 but the other two sisters argued that wasn’t the case. They took legal action and earlier this month the three sisters had to face each other in a court of law.
The court ruled that the three sisters had a verbal contract and ruled in favour of the two sisters, ordering the winning sister to pay out their fair share of the prize plus interest.
If you play bingo in a group then it is worth being clear about how you will share your winnings if at all, but perhaps there’s something to be said for playing online bingo.
