Even cancer patients can play and win at bingo
Bingo is a game that can be played and enjoyed by anyone and everyone as it has no boundaries to the game. Mrs. Julie Bowes-Shorten was the winner of a 100,000 pound bingo jackpot; and she is a patient suffering from cancer.
This win proves to be very beneficial to her as the money can be used for paying for all her cancer treatments that she has managed to do so far with sacrifices.
Mrs. Bowes-Shorten is in her fifties now and had given up her job at the Blue Boar playgroup about five years back. The main reason she had given up her job was the pain that was caused by non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Moreover, the treatment for this condition required that she spend five days in the hospital every three weeks.
Her cancer was diagnosed in 2002, and since then has returned thrice and may be going in for a fourth attack. The chemotherapy that is associated with her cancer treatment reduces her energy, making bingo one of the few leisure activities she can spend with friends.
It was when Mrs. Bowes-Shorten and her husband had visited a Mecca Bingo club in Norwich, England that she had won the jackpot. Till then, she had never known or believed that bingo was such a big-money game.
The money she had won would be used both for her cancer treatment and for gifts for her children and grandchildren.
