Bingo earns charities $1.4 million

Filed under: Bingo News — 10 May 2008

The Boardwalk Gaming Center of Barrie saw a lot of celebrating on Friday with local charities hitting the bingo jackpot. With the hitting of the jackpot, the MPP of Barrie, Aileen Carroll then presented the charities with prize money of $1,448,972, which is the money they had managed to raise over the past year.

After presenting the bingo jackpot, she thanked the volunteers for the amount of effort they had placed for charity. She said that it was because of their efforts that so many charities in Barrie have benefited so much.

It was through the charity bingo program Boardwalk Gaming Center that sufficient money was raised for the charities. This bingo center is basically one of the four in the province that is part of a project that works in helping in the preservation and enhancement of charity bingo.

With involvement in the project, the charities donate their time at the bingo center so that they receive some commission of the revenue that is generated from the bingo games. According to Sarah Major of Deaf Access Simcoe, the money that is raised through the bingo game is always appreciated by the organization.

According to Carol Ellis from the Lions Club of Barrie, bingo is not only a great fundraiser, it is also very fun.
