800 gaming sites listed in Aussie’s ban list

Filed under: Bingo News — 31 Mar 2008

In a bid to track down all sites that are not suitable for public consumption, the Australian government had created a list of all banned gambling web pages. As there are many UK online bingo games operators and online bingo halls catering to Australian customers, it is important that these UK online bingo operators and halls take a look at the list.

This is because it is possible that some of the sites may have been targeted by the Australian list, and in the process, would have caught lots of industry people by surprise. The Australian Communications and Media Authority have issued a list of 800 web pages to Australian ISPs so far.

In addition to the Australian ISPs, the web pages were also sent to some content filtering companies. This list was produced about three months after a similar list was provided to service providers.

An industry source had then approached ACMA to find out what was going on. They were then told that the sites were illegal gambling sites that have been identified as inappropriate by the federal Government.

As the industry source had not received two lists before, there was some confusion. This was then clarified by ACMA stating that the extra list was related to lots of complaints about the existence of illegal gambling sites last October. They were however resolved later.

However Australians maintain that only a few UK online bingo sites have a customer base of Australian players as they generally prefer playing at Australian operated sites.
