Are bingo halls coming to an end?

Filed under: Bingo News — 25 Jan 2008

Information about the possibility of Bournemouth bingo hall closing has improved efforts to get the building listed. Though the final decision of the fate of the hall will be made at month’s end, its council has already started efforts to protect the Art Deco building from getting bulldozed for flats.

So far the building has not been listed but council officers are approaching the English Heritage for the assessment of the site to find out if it is worthy of getting protected. This building was the home of Moderne cinema, which was opened in 1936.

Information on Winton Forum’s website states that the cinema featured cutting edge and innovative interior design of furniture made of tubular stainless steel and fake upholstery of fake leopard skin.

This cinema hall could accommodate as many as 1,500 people and had a provision for a theater organ which was never installed. This cinema hall staged many local talent events and formed the launch of many famous names like Dowland Brothers.

However as cinemas and talent contests lost out to the popularity of television, the building had no option but to convert into a bingo hall in the year 1963. A spokesman from Gala Coral agreed that the Winton club may get closed; however did not make any comments until the decision was made at the end of the month.

Jordan axed from Foxy Bingo for her pay demands:

Filed under: Bingo News — 24 Jan 2008

The glamour Jordan who was involved in the advertising campaign of Foxy Bingo, an online bingo operator, was dropped by Foxy Bingo for her huge pay demands. The real name of Jordan is Katie Price, and dropping her from Foxy Bingo ads has created a renewed focus on the ‘Foxy’ character which is a man with a fox’s head.

This character will now appear by itself on both off and online promotional material for Foxy Bingo. Cashcade, the Foxy parent company announced last year that it was going to divert its budget from direct marketing into television advertising.

This was in response to the probable increase in competition from online betting companies who are able to advertise on TV with the introduction of the Gambling Act 2005 on September 1 last year.

So far it has not been disclosed if the decision to drop Jordan will have any affect on these plans. The TV ad which was fronted by the model, and which was expected to enter production last September will no longer take place because of failed negotiations over her fees.

Cashcade reveals that celebrities will be a part of Foxy Bingo’s marketing mix of radio and magazine interviews. The astrologer Russell Grant was signed up last September as the face of a new game, Russell’s Lucky Stars.

In addition to this, Grant also reads a monthly horoscope that is linked to a ‘lucky number’ while providing regular interviews on Foxy Bingo’s online radio station.

Filed under: Bingo News — 23 Jan 2008

The series of acquisition of online bingo providers in the internet world is continuing with the latest acquisition being that of the Canadian online bingo provider, Parlay Entertainment. The provider Parlay Entertainment is a provider who had recently secured a UK license and is soon to be acquired by the PEIC Acquisition Corp.

The PEIC Acquisition Corp, on the other hand, is a subsidiary of the Letton group of investments that operates from the Caribbean island of Barbados. This is a company that works at setting up investments in firms that are involved in the online gambling industry.

Though this acquisition is practically through, it still has to meet the approval of Parlay’s board of directors and shareholders to be finalized. The bingo provider to be acquired, Parlay Entertainment is a popular bingo software provider.

It has provided software to numerous UK online bingo halls and for numerous online bingo games operators. In addition to all this, it also provides multi-player online bingo software to some UK operators like Virgin and Littlewoods Gaming.
